about

“When the morning comes, the poetry of silence writes its closing phrase in the breaking twilight embers, and my favorite word is your breath in meditation, as you stir, my love, in the sweetest blue November.” Electronica artist Maurice Harris wrote and recorded the titular track, “Sweetest Blue November,” several years before the album began taking shape around it. Finally released in 2011, the result is a beautiful and brooding concept album that flows with an almost hypnotic precision from start to finish. A few of the tracks are standalone pop crossovers in their own right, such as “If I Were Solomon,” “More,” and “Sweetest Blue November (Adagio)”. Even the piano-driven, Tori Amos-styled benediction, “Downfall: The Leaves (Nocturne)” is an impressive standout that demonstrates the artist’s musical range well beyond the expected turns of electronic music. The song sequence is meticulously arranged so that the album tell a story of love lost to betrayal but with the hope of future redemption.
